Disguises

Making it â€Å"What You Will† Shakespeare's Twelfth Night's subtitle, â€Å"What You Will†, entices the thought that you can make the play what you'd like it to be. The audience isn't the only group that gets to change the shape of the play however. Through disguises and false identities, the characters in the play are able to alter the play in an attempt to fulfill their needs. Viola does this successfully by using her disguise as a servant to get close and personal with Orsino, who she would not have been close to normally. Sir Andrews guise on the other hand, doesn't work as well as he'd hoped. His attempts to cloak his true Joking, fun-loving personality with a mask of machismo. His disguise ends up turning Olivia off, instead of on. For both these characters, their attempts to change who they are, and make the play what they will, work to reconstruct the plot of the play. Viola's pursuit at catching Orsino's eye was easily done once her disguise abled her to get cl ose to him. Without her disguise, she would be viewed as Just another woman trying to compete for Orsino's love, which he proclaims is only for Olivia. In act 2, cene ‘v, Orsino opens up to Cesario, his trusted confidant. He talks to Cesario and tells him all about how he views love. He explains to Cesario that, â€Å"For, boy, however we do praise ourselves, Our fancies are more giddy and unfirm, More longing, wavering, sooner lost and worn, Than women's are,† (II, iv 30-34). This helps Viola, as she's able to understand that men, especially Orsino, have wavering affections towards women, so she should not worry about his love for Olivia. Without her ability to get Orsino to confide in her, she wouldn't really know what to do or how to act owards him.Gaining this information, she's able to act on it in a way that completely alters the play. Sir Andrew tries instead to b act how he thinks Olivia would like him to. He expects that she, like all other women, is attracted t o a macho, strong man. However, he couldn't be more wrong. He tries to seduce her this way for the majority of the play until he eventually learns that has been the thing that has scared her away from him the whole time. It isn't until he challenges Viola to a duel that he realizes he's sunk to deep and his chances with Olivia are over.Had Sir Andrew actually gone along with whom he was, he may have had a better chance with Olivia. He couldVe negated the whole love triangle by taking Olivia out of the game, but he altered the plot in a way which he couldn't do that. Both of the characters try to disguise themselves to improve their chances with their lovers. While it works for Viola, who finds out a lot about Orsino, it doesn't work for Sir Andrew who only scares Olivia away. Whether they were successful or not, the two of them altered the plot of the play by trying to make it â€Å"What You Will†. Disguises By therealestging

Netflix Leading with Data:What advice would you give to the CEO of Netflix Essay

Case: Netflix Leading with Data: The Emergence of Data-Driven Video Question: What advice would you give to the CEO of Netflix? Digital distribution market is undoubtedly the future of the video rental industry. Netflix has already taken a good lead in it but must have fresh ideas to keep its advantage in the industry. Beating its competitors in the domestic market is important, however, Netflix should jump out of its own circle into a new market to gain the first mover advantage. Looking at the global market, China is a good choice for Netflix’s next station. Using the Porter’s Five Forces model, Netflix can examine its advantages and disadvantages see whether entering China is good choice: * Bargaining power of customers China has a growing economy with a large group of new middle-class, who are able and willing to consume on entertainment. Nowadays, Chinese usually watch films on free websites with a low picture quality and slow Internet speed. While the number of people watching films are increasing, the picture quality is becoming more important for the viewing experience. Providing a fast, flexible and high-quality service, Netflix can persuade many customers into its subscription model. * Bargaining power of suppliers: China’s film and TV show makers have been facing a major problem: plagiarizing (including unpaid online watching), which substantially decreases their profits. They are finding a pathway to introduce their product to the customers. The advantages of plagiarizing products are the cheap prices and convenience, which Netflix can also provide. Netflix should cooperate with Chinese filmmakers to gain sources of authorized edition film databases and get a lower price since the Chinese filmmakers are eager to run out of the bad situation. * Competitive rivalry: Under the same business model, Netflix would be the first mover in the industry. Although China has few subscription service websites, this is only a minor part of the industry. * Threat of new entrants: The potential competitors have not released any big signals showing that they will enter this industry. Apple’s iTunes, as well as Amazon did poorly in China and have decided not to continue expanding. Netflix should cease this opportunity to enter and take China’s market. * Threat of substitute products: China’s online distribution market is dominated by â€Å"Youku†,  Ã¢â‚¬Å"Tudou† such online video provider; however, their profit model is advertising fees, focusing on the quantity of visitors. With distinct service, it’s not hard for Netflix to occupy the market share. How to focus on the targeted group and how to persuade their potential customers, who used to enjoy cheap, even free resources online, to pay for a m onthly membership, is a big concern to the corporation. To emphasize Netflix’s higher quality service is of great importance. First, Netflix’s technology can help its members build up personal own style’s videos at high efficiency. Besides that, compared with the existing Chinese video websites, like Youku and Toudu, Netflix does not contain any advertisement before or after a movie. Those movies and TV shows posted on Netflix are mostly high definition displays, and customers would like to pay for the HD movies, rather than trying to understand a blurry image on other websites. Furthermore, Netflix’s new component called Friends allows movie buffs to share reviews and recommendations. In China, the website could cooperate with Douban, which is the largest and most influential film review website, and Renren, which is regularly called Chinese Facebook, so that Netflix could not only act as a video online leasing website, but also a social network website in China’s market. Beside the high-level quality, Netflix should offer a large quantity of movies, especially the movies from Hollywood. With the Chinese movie import policy, China only imported 55 movies in 2012. The number is comparatively small compared with the amount of movies that the Chinese audience demands. Netflix could take the advantage to offer more American movies online, which is under laxer regulation both on amount and the content examination, to gain the customers who are interested to watch more foreign movies. ——————————————– [ 1 ]. Answer qusetion of final exam - Essay Example xplain why and how the events take place and subsequent pattern of behaviour of man under certain condition involving emotional and metaphysical reaction. The role of brain and conscious and unconscious activities of the mind are seen to be the responsible for the general behaviour of man. The cognitive theory, therefore, defines brain and the mind as two independent entities that work in tandem to produce actions and reactions of man, to an event. Descartes treated body and mind of a man separately. He believed that body is inanimate object that acts only at the behest of the mind. It is also known as Cartesian dualism. He says that one cannot find out the nature of physical things without the participation of ‘intelligence’ which instead of ‘seeing’ judges them do be so. The mind therefore understands and recognizes other objects because of its inherent ability to represent complex structures rather than relying on sensation and imagination (Descartes, 1901). The theory of dualism, though controversial at that time, was much appreciated and even corroborated by the later philosophers. Kim, through his theory of causal closure and overdetermination, has tried to correlate mind and body. The overdetermination hints at causes that might constitute non physical causal effects. It can be explained in the following example. If, one is having headache and takes appropriate medication he will get the relief . But if at the same time, he would rest, process of recovering would be expedited. The need to know the working of mind becomes all the more important because of the fact that all our intentional and non intentional decisions and emotive expressions have a definite voluntary and involuntary actions associated with them. Hence our state of mental causation results in some form of physical actions. In other words, our beliefs and desires are linked with some definite actions that are designed to rearrange the physical aspects of our surrounding through the

Math Autobiography - Article Example The teacher did not grade our performances in such class activities but rather chose to mark a wrong or right, paying greater attention in determining our weaknesses which would then determine the solution approach adopted. Geometry particularly gave me problems initially. Specifically, I found it challenging to solve problems that required the determination of the length of the sides in triangles. There was a specific set of triangles that were standard in terms of the angles of the intersecting sides that was difficult to me. Problems related to equilateral triangles were simpler because of the equality in the measurements. However, problems regarding the other types, including scalene and isosceles triangles, were challenging to me. I would give significant attempts to solving questions regarding remote angles of a triangle but determining exterior angles were critically challenging. Moreover, there were problems that required complex shapes to be decomposed into simpler ones for their measurements to be determined. This posed the challenge of having to determine the appropriate shape and how to further determine the measurements. It was difficult to understand what made Geometry difficult to me. However, Holme argues that failure in findings solutions to problems could be attributed to fixed thoughts and inflexible approaches (6). The failure of familiar approaches to solve a problem could result in an experience of challenges. This could have been my problem because, even after learning the approaches to solving Geometry problems from my peers, I would still try to find how my approaches would fit in. I was afraid of adopting new strategies. However, I am now well versed with Geometry sums. I found the solution by starting with dropping all the methods I used to solve such problems. I then adopted new strategies as shown by my peer

Sixth Annual Message of George Washington Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Sixth Annual Message of George Washington - Essay Example The laws of the US were opposed and were too powerful to be suppressed by general judicial proceedings or by the powers vested on the marshal of the district (Podell and Anzovin). Therefore, he sought to subdue and weigh the best option for the crisis. Washington urged the Congress to support his taxation laws so that the public debt would be reduced. Further, he urged the Congress not to procrastinate the issue since the fiscal measures had commenced (Podell and Anzovin). Washington was geared to foreseeing favorable international relations and therefore urged the Congress that the intercourse with foreign nations would be mandated to the Congress. Washington described the people who participated in the rebellion as enemies of order who were bound to start an insurrection. He also described them as an embittered and prejudice artifice of men whose passions promoted riots and violence (Burns and Dunn). In my opinion, it was not a fair assessment because democracy entails the will of the people. Therefore, he would have engaged the citizens in dialogue and explain to them reasons behind the new taxation measures to curb public

Human Resource Management - Essay Example Learning and development strategies are developed to provide continuous improvements to the company and its people. The learning and development process of the company allows the company to build the core competencies and this in turn helps the company keep up the competitive advantage and the flexibility. Hence it is crucial to note that the learning and development strategies of companies are very important aspects and need to be well designed and executed (P.Dwarakanath & M.Mala, n.d). The main features of the effective learning and development strategies mainly include the following. Firstly, effective learning and development strategies are well planned and designed based on the strategic goals of the company. The main reason the employees are trained within an organization is mainly to meet the goals and objectives of the company and to contribute to the growth of the company. Hence the learning and development strategies of the company are also mainly focused on the strategies of the business and focuses on the ways that the business can yield results (Silverman & Casazza, 1999). Hence an effective and efficient training strategy is one which is all rounded and takes into account all the strategies of the company as well as the internal and external environment as well. The second main feature is the Return on investment (ROI). In the modern organizations, a very important element that is always focused on is the return on investment that the company gains from the investment. Hence here in this case, with the learning and development strategies, an effective strategy will be one whose impact can be measured based on the various elements like the productivity, reduction in the defect rates, and many other process related elements (Lawler & King, 2000). The next important element of a successful learning and development plan is the methodology adopted by the company for the training and development needs. This includes various different learning and

Explain and demonstrate how capital transactions are accounted for in Essay - 1

Explain and demonstrate how capital transactions are accounted for in a partnership - Essay Example These two categories majorly differ in the rights they bestow upon their owners. Common stock is simply the partial ownership of company where an investor buys stocks traded by the company through public offer. Investors may trade these stocks amongst themselves on the secondary market. The primary goal of buying these stocks is to earn dividends should the company make profit. Every common stock is a representation of a certain proportion of ownership in a company. for example if a company has 500,000 shares of common stock and an investor owns 5 of them, then we can say that he or she owns 5/500,000th of the company and same percentage of profit share. Preferred stock just like common stock represents partial ownership in a company. However, preferred stock shareholders do not enjoy other privileges like the voting rights. In this category investors are paid a fixed dividend not based on the number of shares owned. However the company may fail to pay dividends due to the financial challenge. In such cases, dividends of the preferred shareholders are always paid off first before common shareholders. Investors whether common or preferred have the ownership right of the company. A stockholder has a say in the running of the company. The most significant thing about stocks is that it is a high return investment. Stocks whether preferred or common have better return. Both kinds of stock pay dividends. Stocks generally can be a kind of dangerous investment. This is true for both preferred and common stock. Investors can lose all the money if the company runs at a significant loss. One major difference between common stock and the preferred stock is that shareholders with common stock are paid dividends proportional to the number of stock owned by an individual. However preferred stock shareholders are paid fixed dividend. It is beneficial to own preferred stock. This is because as a

Mastring Management 4330 Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Mastring Management 4330 - Assignment Example The management team is normally on the ground, and therefore; may have their new ideas and plans, which they may want incorporated. Hence, leaving out the managers in strategy and plan formulation will result in the new ideas and plans not implemented in a timely manner. Persuasion is one of the power and influence strengths that I will bring in the new company. The use of reason allows other employees in the company to see why the new proposed ideas make sense. Consequently, this will determine whether the ideas will be implemented in a timely manner or not. In cases whereby the ideas will not be implemented, the use of intimidation will become necessary. Since the managers still report to their former line managers, it is important that managers adjust to the new authority. In addition, applying pressure on the management team will increase productivity and reduce absenteeism (300). Introducing an open door policy increases the interaction between the subordinates, management and the vice president. In turn, as the vice president, I will know what is happening on the ground, which is important in decision making and increasing power and influence. In the case of absenteeism on the production floor, the retribution strategy will be effective. The managers on the production floor have a close connection with their subordinates, which prevent them from taking any action on their absenteeism. This has led to decrease in productivity. Putting pressure on the manager responsible, threatening him with sacking, will make him act on the absenteeism. Reciprocity strategy will be effective in tackling the issue of decreased productivity. Offering incentives and rewards will motivate both the managers and employees to meet their set targets. Successful implementation of the new ideas, strategies and plans will require the managers to understand them. Using the reason strategy, the values and set targets and achievements

Environmental impact occurs at all levels of oil and gas sequence but is apparent during upstream level of operations. The upstream level involves oil and gas exploration and production with impact such as accidental spills or atmospheric emissions. The environmental impact has conventionally not the focus on many players, and the oil and gas industry was not under immense environmental regulation for substance period during it operations. It is apparent that environmental regulation focusing on the oil and gas industry i s a latest phenomenon only few years old. The GE Oil & Gas Inc Company has picked up some of this habits and it’s not pretty for the colossal company that has some considerable control on the oil and gas market in the global economy. Conclusions with further remarks Essay Undeniably, the factors that seemingly adhere onto the level of security of certain vicinities may be hard to simplify. Given the fact that individuals come in different ideals, beliefs and characteristics, the greed over power and sovereignty is implicitly the main reason why the issue on security and the plague on terrorism are undeniably swallowing the minds of the society (Laqueur, 1999). With such, it is an astounding standpoint that countries are now paying much attention on the ‘security’ of its people and the preparations onto competence in the arena of globalization (Buzan et al. , 1997). As the Australian Securitisation Forum Inc. notes in their mission: â€Å"To shape the future of the Australian securitisation industry for the ongoing benefit of its members,† piously, if the mission be fulfilled in the most ideal sense as it had been established, the attainment of the goals and hopes of the nation and of the world will be at reach in the most unifying array. Our purpose is an examination of the second issue—the politys response to the government’s move to the provision of security. Consequently, while passing reference may be made to causative factors (indeed, governmental response and the labeling of security may be viewed as causative) (Snyder, 1999), this work is most concerned with the manner in which conflict and consensus theories might interpret and predict governmental reactions to violence and other threats of the like. In essence, this horizon of defining the exactness of ‘security’ is still vague as of the time being because keeping up a nation under â€Å"maximum security† is vulnerable to jeopardizing consequences. KFC Market Share of Revenues 2007 (KFC, 2009) Existing Business Strategy KFCs follows SWOT analysis technique for its existing business strategy. To start with Strategy is the practice of settling on placing the organization in its competitive environment righty, with the goal to achieve and sustain competitive advantage as well as profitably. It is the onion skin approach in business, wherein each layer of skin must be peeled off and studied on prior to the core Strategic Business Unit (SBU) element is arrived at (Elkin, 1998.) The SWOT analysis is an extensively used philosophy framework for classifying an organizations strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. SWOT entitles key factors to be apparently documented as a high level summary of a business (or personal) circumstance. Defining it is a summary which is simple but powerful; its system is generally used by consultants to certificate the key factors that should derived from the examination of a particular project or business. Moreover, SWOT allows an investigation to be conducted on the whole perspective view of internal as well as external conditions of a business and the plans in which it is surging on, from the means of knowing its current Strengths and Weaknesses. An added aspect is the allowed ability of a judgment on external business environment, which can greatly influence the performance. SWOT technique aids in putting in to comprehensible explanations of strategic choices, in order to have clear executive decisions that are to be a ssessed and identified. Lastly, it compares existing and potential future traits of the organization and supports evaluation of the consequences from alternative actions (Elkin, 1998.) Recommendations Experts Advise During the press release of Kraft Foods Q1 2009 Earnings Report in May 5, 2009. Irene Rosenfeld, its chairman and CEO, said: Weve had a very solid start to the year, and were on track to deliver our 2009 commitments. Our business momentum remains strong despite a challenging consumer environment. We are intensely focused on investing our cost savings to build our core brands, improve our product mix and drive superior retail execution. This will further enhance our profit margins and improve market shares as the year unfolds (KFC, 2009.) She further advised the KFC group on a solid drive in gaining heightened profits from operations. In the previous year, there was a drive for cost-driven pricing actions, which yielded organic net revenue growth and an exceeding expectation of a better-than-expected volume/mix number of sales. She also advised that the business segments drive for operating gains across the globe should be focused on operating income growth, margin expansion and higher earnings per share (KFC, 2009.) This years forward-looking statements are reaffirmed 2009 GAAP EPS guidance; that KFC is on track to deliver 2009 commitments; that business momentum will be strong; that it is greatly focused on investing cost savings to formulate core brands, enhance product mix and execute excellent retail execution; that the investments adds profit margins and induce fruitful market shares as the year unfolds; timely full-year tax rate; and gain confidence in achieving 2009 organic net revenue growth of approximately 3 percent (KFC, 2009.) Implications It is advisable to used the environmental mapping as a new business strategic plan as an improvement from KFCs current SWOT analysis technique. It is a kind of technique which is aimed to define the key characteristics of the environment in relation from where the business operates. It presents the `backcloth formula that will make visible the future strategies and plans. Its model consists of four areas of focus. Advised action under this kind of strategy is to separately map the varied environments where the diverse countries of the company operate. How should KFC apply environmental mapping into their company business process? Necessary information and records should be based from the senior management of the business from their own accounts knowledge and experience. During cases this is not possible, external knowledge should be consulted from sources to supplement the present management needs. The mapping defines general pressures and conflicts which encircle the industry wherein the business operates, main conditions of environmental group, and matters that are prevailing and are plausible to bring to bear the most difficulty or authority on the upcoming direction and prospects of KFC. This is normally accomplished by using H/M/L (High/Medium/Low) tagging of every factor (Elkin, 1998). In writing and formulating an environmental mapping for KFC, these questions should be asked and answered: What are the characteristics of the environment(s) in which the business operates?, How are the key factors changing? and What will be t he impact on future strategic choices? Conclusion In conclusion, Kraft Foods Company (KFC) has shown exemplary performance in the year 2009 being an example global organization. Its external market assessment has a gradual uprising line, which basing from the theories of organization management and the evaluation of its SWOT analysis technique proves that KFC uses an effective existing business strategy, generates high consumer sector data and earns more market share of revenues than any brands in the market. Basing on the consumer sector data and market share of revenues feedback on the current performances indicators of KFC, there is a definite positive satisfaction gained from its range of products. With patterns from a strategic business plan, it is able to handle functions to promote their views, handle communications and even handle a global environmental concern. It is very sensible to use the environmental mapping as a business growth from KFCs usual technique of using a SWOT analysis. Not only does it endow consumers with healthy products, it is also a new strategic business plan that shows mature key characteristics of an organizational awareness for the environment for the present and future. This way in improving business performance can also determine general pressures and conflicts to deal with aside from catering to a global concern that allows main conditions of environmental group to work together with the present matters on the continued success of KFC.

Hybrid Pharmacophores as Anti-inflammatory Agents

Hybrid Pharmacophores as Anti-inflammatory Agents CHAPTER VII SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION The Synthesis of molecules that are important in the control of ageing diseases is very important in the present decades. The compounds like Diarylsulfonylurea-chalcone may act as anti-inflammatory agents that may be linked as network to several diseases. The synthetic compounds have the abilities to act as preventive compounds having therapeutic action. In the present decade, one can consider synthetic products in preventing aging diseases via anti-inflammation. Hence there is a need to discover novel synthetic compounds that are deemed in prevention and treatment of diseases showing tremendous impact on health care systems. As a part of our research program aimed at search for new hybrid pharmacophores as anti-inflammatory agents, we are interested to have ÃŽ ±,ÃŽ ²-unsaturatedketone linker to the diarylsulfonylurea basic nucleus to give a series of diarylsulfonylurea-chalcone hybrids. Therefore, in the present study an attempt has been made to design, synthesize and characterize some new diarylsulfonylurea-chalcone hybrids. Drug Discovery and drug development is a knowledge base, expensive and time intense method. Scientific advancements throughout the past 20 years have modified the manner pharmaceutical analysis generate novel bioactive molecules. Advances in machine/computer aided techniques and in parallel support of hardware have enabled in silico strategies, and particularly structure-based drug style technique, to speed up new target choice through identification of hits for the optimization of lead compounds within the drug discovery method. Genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics and, chemo informatics have gained vast quality Associate in development became an integral a part of the commercial and educational analysis, directive drug style and discovery. Virtual screening emerged as a crucial tool in our quest to access novel drug like compounds (Wermuth et al., 1998, Allen, 2002). Rational in silico drug style are often tired 2 ways in which ligand-based or structure-based are analyzed for compound activity. With the supply of the 3D structure of a biological target, its possible to use a structure-based approach to judge and predict the binding mode of a matter inside the situation of the receptor with tying up strategies. Currently it’s a well-liked technique used for increasing the speed of drug coming up with method. This was created attainable by the supply of the many super molecule structures that helped in developing tools to know the structure operate relationships, machine-controlled tying up and virtual screening. Moreover, once no 3D structural data regarding target proteins with their receptor website is obtainable ligand-based style is applied. The ligand-based approach starts with a bunch of ligands binding to a similar receptor with a similar mechanism. These four completely different methods supported the previous information of the tar gets 3D structure and therefore the ligands binding to that square measure predominant (Van, 2007; Kier, 1967). Chalcones are considered as precursors of flavonoidsand isoflavonoids in edible plants thatshowa variousarray ofmedical specialtyactivities. Chalcones are new class of glycosidase (ÃŽ ±-amylase, ÃŽ ±-glucosidase, and ÃŽ ²-amylase) inhibitors that shows non-competitive inhibition acts against ÃŽ ±-glucosidase. The effect of chalcones in hyperglycemic-normal rats on serum glucose-lowering properties highlighting the novel compounds showing strong anti-hyperglycemic properties (Damazio et al., 2009). Sulfonylureas were only drugs used to stimulate the insulin secretion in patients with type 2 diabetes or D2M. Diarylsulfonylurea (DSU) is a novel anticancer molecule because has unique chemical structure with broad-spectrum antisolid-tumor activity in preclinical models. The sulfonylurea inhibits the eosinophil survival in a method similar to lidocaine. Anti-inflammation is the biological process of the diseases that links to the pathways related to aging diseases. A substance that reduces inflammation are linked to cancer, diabetes, etc., are anti-inflammatory compounds used to reduce the risk of age related diseases. In the present investigation, the LPID approach is now applied to the database of 25 compounds virtually designed for finding ‘best fit’ (hit identification) against selected anti-inflammatory protein drug target (5-Lipoxygenase (5-LO)). The compounds appear out of these molecular docking studies with least binding energy against target protein were prepared by using standard conventional methods of synthesis and subjected for corresponding in vitro and in vivo studies. By this means, it is possible to understand how the compounds interact with the selected anti-inflammatory target protein. The results promising out of this study can be used to identify a new class of potential anti-inflammatory agents with selective 5-LO inhibitory activity. A set of 25 diarylsulfonylurea-chalcone hybrids 4a-4y were subjected to ligand-protein inverse docking simulation using software Molegro Virtual Docker v 5.0. These compounds were docked against selected anti-inflammatory drug target (i.e. Human 5-Lipoxygenase PDB Code: 3V99). The results of these studies could help in preliminary confirmation of inhibitory activity against 5-lipoxygenase. The result of the docking interactions between the selected compounds and protein target, data in shows that compound 4g was accomplished best binding efficiency against 5-lipoxygenase with Moldock Score (-193.641) with 3 hydrogen bond interactions and the corresponding interacting residues are Asn 554, Ser 608 and Ala 606 these hydrogen bonds not only relevant for the binding 4g to 3V99 to exhibit highly selective and potent binding affinity. Moreover, from the data given in it appears that the co-crystallized ligand arachidonic acid and positive standard abietic acid showed no hydrogen bond inter actions with the active binding site residues indicating the importance of steric interactions and electrostatic interactions for their observed 5-lipoxygenase inhibitory activity. The key intermediary in the current study 1-(3-acetylphenyl)-3-tosylurea was synthesized by reaction of 3-aminoacetophenone with methylchloroformate under basic conditions at 0 Â °C temperature to give methyl-3-acetylphenylcarbamate followed by the reaction with toluene sulphonamide and on the other hand subsequent Claisen-Schmidt condensation of the intermediate with appropriate aromatic/heteroaromatic aldehydes in ethanolic KOH solution to give the corresponding diarylsulfonylurea-chalcone hybrids (4a4y) in good yield The investigation of the compounds(4a-4y) in vitro 5-LO inhibitory activity screening data revealed that the compounds 4r and 4o demonstrated comparatively the most potent inhibitory activity, with IC50 values of 7.88Â ±0.14 Â µg/mL and 11.77Â ±0.21 Â µg/mL, respectively. An in silico toxicity tests can be conducted for diarylsulfonylurea-chalcone hybrids 4o, 4q, 4r, 4t, 4y and standard (Aceclofenac) to predict the toxicity nature using Lazar server. All the compounds are predicted as non-toxic. From the in vitro 5-LO inhibitory activity data, five potent diarylsulfonylurea-chalcone hybrids compounds (mentioned above) which displayed significant activity has been selected for further anti-inflammatory activity studies by using in vivo bioassay model i.e. Carrageenan-induced rat paw oedema method. The results of the assessment have been viewed by taking Aceclofenac as the standard drug. Finally the work concludes that all the compounds displayed were shown remarkable anti-inflammatory activity.

In Nazi Occupied Eastern Europe, the Jewish Reaction to the Final Solution Varied :: Papers

In Nazi Occupied Eastern Europe, the Jewish Reaction to the Final Solution Varied The common belief of the reaction of the Jews to the final solution is that they did nothing. Many believed that they went like 'sheep to the slaughter'. However only recently has evidence come to light through documents hidden, found then translated from Russian, Polish and other languages. Also only recently survivors are coming forward and recollecting their experiences. Now it is therefore coming to light that many resisted in many different ways. The Jews resisted in various ways, one of which was passive resistance. One forms of passive resistance was survival. Survival was a form of resistance because it went against the Nazis aim, which was to exterminate the Jews. Examples of the effort of survival were seen in ghettos where food smuggling operations were carried out and also various activities, which supported the will to live and try to add some 'normality' to life. Also another example of the will to preserve life was the Jewish Self Help association, which organised street collections and soup kitchens. The reason for the will to survive is that they believed that they were going to be resettled in the East rather than sent to their death. However if the Jews knew that they were going to be executed many would have lost the will to live, but some it would of given them more determination to resist the Nazis by force, which became apparent around 1942. However the passive resistance and defiance through survival raised morale, due to the fact that they were snubbing and defying the third Reich, which was one of the strongest armies the world has ever seen. Examples of surviving were also seen in the actual death camps where tact and initiative were used to avoid the gas chambers in which Samuel Pisar who was a prisoner a Auschwitz was in the line for entering the gas chambers at which point he saw a pail of water & a brush, he then got them & started scrubbing the floor, until he got out the door he then

Solar Energys Ability to Power our Future Essay -- Energy Solar PV Pa

Solar ability to power our future Abstract Solar Energy is the process of using the rays from the sun and transferring the energy into thermal or electric energy. A main contribution to solar energy is PV panels. The Solar panels are found in a variety of locations, but mostly found on roofs of buildings or other large surfaces. The panels are devices used to capture the solar energy transferring it into electric or heat energy. Solar energy is beneficial in numerous ways, including helping the environment. Studies and attempts in working with solar energy have been around for decades and continue evolving. Solar Energy is very beneficial, but still has its disadvantages. Yet as the studies and experiments continue, the usage and benefits of Solar Energy will flourish. Introduction Solar Energy first appeared during the 1860s’. The first scientist that is believed to have turned solar power into mechanical energy was Auguste Mouchout. He began his studies in fear that his country was becoming too dependent on coal. After he received grants, he continued perfecting his theory until 1880, in which he created the beginning of outstanding and beneficial findings. (Smith 2007) Many people took his theories and experiments and evolved it more thoroughly. Since then solar power has come along way and now anybody has the opportunity to be involved in the struggle for energy. Numerous of households across the United States are cutting down on their usage of lights and appliances, and solar panels are being seen more frequent. The Effect of Family Violence on Youth Violence :: Expository Cause Effect Essays

The Effect of Family Violence on Youth Violence    Everyday, a child witnesses an act of violence. Not on television but in their own home. "Family and home are not havens in which a child finds nurturing and safety, but rather a battleground where fear, anxiety, confusion, anger, and disruption are significant threads in the tapestry of home life," Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing. Children of family violence are often abusers or victims of abuse themselves. Family violence is a cycle that is very hard to stop. A home is supposed to be a safe place where children learn how to love and relate to others. If they are constantly seeing violence in their parent's relationship, then they assume that a normal relationship is also filled with violence. Often, children do not understand why the violence occurs and may be afraid to share their emotions because of fear. They may associate love and pain together, because this is witnessed in their home. This could lead to psychological problems and confusion about relationshi ps. Children who witness family violence tend to have behavioral, interpersonal, and emotional problems. Some of the behavioral problems children of family violence suffer from are aggression, withdrawal, and frustration. Children of family violence are often more violent than other children (Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing). Some stress management techniques that children learn are bursts of anger. Violence is learned as an efficient way to solve problems. They often model their parent's conflict resolution techniques. These children are often withdrawn and internalize their emotions. Most of these children are isolated from their peers. Frequent change of residence could be a cause of children's isolation from peers (Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing). Children of family violence are often frustrated because they can not deal with their problems. Often, their education is disrupted by family violence and they start having problems concentrating at school and with truancy. Most are underachievers as a result of low self-esteem which leads to low pa rticipation in class or other school activities (Children's Services Plan). Children of family violence also have many interpersonal problems. They usually assume the victim role. Weak and unhealthy relationships are frequent in adults that grew up in violent homes. Children of family violence have trouble forming intimate relationships and have problems understanding others emotions. (Berry 105). "Each year, millions of children witness their mothers being emotionally abused, physically battered, even sexually assaulted by their fathers or other men in the home" (Berry 104). Unmistakably Racist

Miami is a state of America and so thus Michigan. These two states are both progressive like any other states in America. But when one tackles about the racism that is happening in those two states, there are some things that are surprisingly odd. After reading the article written by William Booth entitled â€Å"A White Migration North from Miami,† I easily got the gist of the article which says â€Å"There is a racism that is happening in Miami.† And from that very point of the fact that racism is present there, Michigan is no doubt a good comparison with that of Miami. On my own understanding of racism, I define it as a discrimination of a superior race over the inferior ones. In the article of Booth, he cited many instances wherein the Americans feel that they are being discriminated because of the fact that their population is clearly a minority in the state. It seems that wherever they go, even in malls, food chains or government institutions, the people are Spanish s peakers. They really feel that the place is not theirs anymore because of the massive invasion of the Spanish speaking people. To make the racism clear enough, I want to conclude from what Booth says in the article, that whoever holds the most population, they are the ones who are more likely rule the place just like what happened in Miami. It is true that there is a reverse racism in Miami. Americans usually think that they are the superior race. But in the case of Miami, Spanish speaking people become the superior class because of their increasing numbers. In Michigan, Americans still reign the seat of superior class.Tracing back the history, the White Americans were discriminating the Black Americans. One good example of it was the way the students were treated. According to Zbrozek of The Daily Michigan, blacks, unlike the whites, were not allowed to attend dance classes and to use swimming pools. He also said that blacks were also not enjoying the rights of white students to join political activities in school. The discrimination of whites towards the blacks is very evident.Nowadays, there was still some racism that is happening in Michigan but not that bad like before just like what   Monique Luse said because as what Isaac Curtis in the article written by Jeff Barr that a good man is no doubt a good man no matter what his color and race. And Black Americans have already proven their worth in the society.I think my point is now clear enough. Booth is right. The majority wins over the minority and in this case, it is not an exemption. Are you the one who is discriminating someone or the one who is being discriminated? If you are the racist one, have you ever wondered if discriminating people are good habit to do?What if you go to a place where you and your class are being discriminated because of the apparent fact that you are a minority group of people in that particular place? Do you think you will feel good? Come to think of it as early as now. You wil l never know what will be the twist of fate do unto you.Works CitedBooth, William. A White Migration North from Miami. How is Stanhope Represented in the First Two Acts of ‘Journey’s End’?

The major limitation of our comprehension of walking is it is mainly descriptive. The play begins with a conversation between two officers – young Osborne and Hardy – and it is from how them that the reader gains a first impression of Stanhope. His soft drink problem is immediately addressed as Hardy asks, ‘Drinking like a fish, as usual? ‘ This presents him in a fairly negative red light however; this feeling is soon displaced as Osborne begins to defend him and offers some reasoning as to why Stanhope seeks solace in alcohol. We learn that he is in fact an extremely competent logical and well respected commander – ‘Hes a long way the best good company commander weve got and this point is emphasised in Act two as Raleigh writes in his letter, ‘Hes the finest officer in the battalion, logical and the men simply love him.Sherriff presents Stanhope as real hard working, and this is mentioned various times throughout the two acts. Those many applicants will be notified by the Division. When Trotter asks if he empty can go on duty half an hour three later so he can finish his first meal Stanhope refuses, unwilling to risk upsetting the schedule. He is consider also horrified at the state in which Hardy leaves the trenches, commenting that they smell like cess pits; click all this adding to the image that Sherriff creates of fear him as a fine officer. Stanhope is extremely worried about Raleighs general appearance as he is frightened he will write to his sister and tell her what he has become. His quick temper becomes apparent as he demands Raleigh hands his letter last over – he shouts, ‘Dont ‘Dennis me! Stanhopes my name! ‘ and even snaps at Osborne.

Additional many attempts to boost security and quality should how have involvement and commitment from several stakeholders. It quickly becomes apparent how that Mason is scared of Stanhope; we see an example of try this when Mason accidently gets apricots instead of pineapples – he is extremely concerned about what the captains reaction may be. This further enforces the new idea of Stanhope having a short temper. Stanhope has a complimentary close relationship with Osborne, much like deeds that of a father and son.Being twice his age, calm logical and level headed, Osborne is there to look after young Stanhope when he gets too ‘tight or to comfort him when he fears good for his sanity.Ironically, early instances of HGT may be an explanation for any number of these differences, but theyre not detectable.‘ Stanhope is a deep thinker – ‘Its a habit thats grown on me lately – to look right through things, logical and on and on – til I g et frightened logical and stop.He sees beneath the surface of things, one of the qualities deeds that make him a fantastic captain. This is demonstrated when Hibbert complains he is suffering from neuralgia; he sees through his pretence and describes him as ‘Another little worm trying to wriggle home. ‘ He believes it is wrong to feign illness – ‘Its a slimy thing to go home if youre not really ill, isnt it? ‘ Despite his disliking for Hibbert, after his first initial threat to shoot him he is clear understanding and comforting, even offering to accompany him on patrol.

It is an antioxidant, pr neverthelessting handicap to primary(prenominal) cellular comp wiznts ca employ by antiphonal gathering O species often(prenominal) as apologise basals and peroxides. 2 Thiol groups ar simplification agents, real at a engrossment of much or little 5 mM in animal(prenominal) cells.Glutathi genius represss disulfide bonds organize indoors cytoplasmic proteins to cysteines by portion as an electron presenter. In the process, glutathione is reborn to its change manikin glutathione disulfide (GSSG), as soundly up c completelyed L(-)-Glutathione. Glutathione is rig al around merely in its descendd lick, since the enzyme that reverts it from its oxidate phase angle, glutathione reductase, is constitutively alive(p) and inducible upon aerophilous speech pattern. In point, the dimension of bring d acquire got glutathione to oxidate glutathione at bottom cells is practic separately(prenominal) last(predicate)y use as a meter of cellular nephro hepato hepatotoxicity. 3 Glutathione is non an natural nutritious (meaning it does non affirm to be obtained via food), since it brook be subtractioned in the personify from the amino group group panes L-cysteine, L-glutamic pungent, and glycine. The sulfhydryl (thiol) group (SH) of cysteine lists as a proton outwearor and is trus devilrthy for the biologic exercise of glutathione. supply of this amino acerbic is the rate-limiting reckon in glutathione entailment by the cells, since cysteine is comparatively obsolete in foodstuffs.Further more than, if released as the thaw amino vitriolic, cysteine is toxic and impromptu catabolized in the gastrointesti nal piece of ground and dividing line plasma. 4 Glutathione is synthesized in two adenosine triphosphate-dependent travel * First, gamma-glutamylcysteine is synthesized from L-glutamate and cysteine via the enzyme gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase (a. k. a. glutamate cysteine ligase, GCL). This chemical pition is the rate-limiting step in glutathione subtraction. character compulsory * Second, glycine is added to the C-terminal of gamma-glutamylcysteine via the enzyme glutathione synthetase. tool glutamate cysteine ligase (GCL) is a heterodimeric enzyme dispassionate of a catalytic (GCLC) and modulatory (GCLM) subunit. GCLC constitutes twain the enzymatic use, whereas GCLM appends the catalytic capacity of GCLC. Mice deficient GCLC (i. e. , every(prenominal) de novo GSH tax deduction) tumble originally birth. 5 Mice miss GCLM license no discloseer pheno font, more over disclose mark decrease in GSH and increase comminutedness to toxic insults. 678 ep och all cells in the humans clay be unresolved of synthesizing glutathione, colorful glutathione price reduction has been shown to be native. An increase GSSG-to-GSH ratio is considered declarative of aerophilous examine. Glutathione has ninefold locomotes It is the major endogenetic antioxidant produced by the cells, dynamic the like a shot in the neutralization of salve radicals and responsive group O compounds, as well(p) as maintaining exogenous antioxidants such as vitamins C and E in their cut back (active) forms. 16 reference point needed * regulation of the azotic oxide cycle, which is vituperative for life only when coffin nail be hard if un adjust 17 * fi nished involve co-occurrence, it detoxifies umpteen xenobiotics (foreign compounds) and carcinogens, both(prenominal) natural and inorganic. This includes massive metals such as mercury, lead, and arsenic. reference needed * It is decisive for the insubordinate placement to preserve its full(a) potential, e. g. , (1) modulating antigen demo to lymphocytes, thereby influencing cytokine yield and type of re splitee (cellular or hum vocal) that develops, (2) enhancing proliferation of lymphocytes, thereby change order of magnitude magnitude of response, (3) enhancing cleaning activity of cytotoxic T cells and NK cells, and (4) correct apoptosis, thereby maintaining give of the resistant response. citation needed * It plays a primaeval portion in m both another(prenominal) metabolic and biochemical reactions such as desoxyribonucleic acid deduction and repair, protein deduction, prostaglandin price reduction, amino acid transport, and enzyme activation. However, it is alike adapted of participating in non-enzymatic conjugation with some chemicals. In the eccentric person of N-acetyl-p-benzoquinone imine (NAPQI), the thermolabile cytochrome P450- reactive metabolite make by paracetamol (or acetaminophen as it is cognize in the US), that perplexs toxic when GSH is pocket-sized-toned by an treat of acetaminophen, Glutathione is an essential antidote to sexually transmitted disease.Glutathione conjugates to NAPQI and helps to detox it. In this capacity, it shelters cellular protein thiol groups, wh ich would differently be count covalently control when all GSH has been spent, NAPQI begins to react with the cellular proteins, cleanup the cells in the process. The pet treatment for an overdose of this anodyne is the judgeship (usually in atomized form) of N-acetyl-L-cysteine (often as a trademark expression called Mucomyst 1), which is treat by cells to L-cysteine and apply in the de novo tax write-off of GSH.Glutathione (GSH) participates in leukotriene synthesis and is a co mover for the enzyme glutathione peroxidase. It is overly of import as a deliquescent molecule that is added to oleophilic toxins and redundance in the liver during biotransformation onwards they trick become part of the bile. Glutathione is overly needed for the detoxification of methylglyoxal, a toxin produced as a by harvest of metabolism. This detoxification reaction is carried out by the glyoxalase system. Glyoxalase I (EC 4. 4. 1. ) catalyzes the metempsychosis of methylglyoxal and cut down glutathione to S-D-lactoyl-glutathione. Glyoxalase II (EC 3. 1. 2. 6) catalyzes the hydrolysis of S-D-lactoyl-glutathione to glutathione and D-lactic acid. Glutathione has recently been apply as an inhibitor of melanin in the cosmetics industry. In countries like japan and the Philippines, this product is interchange as a discolor soap. Glutathione competitively inhibits melanin synthesis in the reaction of tyrosinase and levodopa by interrupting L-DOPAs expertness to link up to tyrosinase during melanin synthesis. The forbiddance of melanin synthesis was reverse by increase the parsimony of L-DOPA, unless not by increase tyrosinase. Although the synthesized melanin was mass in spite of appearance 1 h, the assemblage was inhibit by the appurtenance of glutathione. These extends sign that glutathione inhibits the synthesis and agglutination of melanin by interrupting the function of L-DOPA. 18 crop in dresss In plants, glutathione is crucial for biotic an d abiotic tensity management. It is a frigid component of the glutathione-ascorbate cycle, a system that curbs pestiferous henry peroxide. 19 It is the harbinger of phytochelatins, glutathione oligomeres that chelate sour metals such as cadmium. 20 Glutathione is required for effective defense force against plant pathogens such as genus Pseudomonas syringae and genus Phytophthora brassicae. 21 APS reductase, an enzyme of the south preoccupancy way uses glutathione as electron donor. other(a) enzymes exploitation glutathione as substratum atomic number 18 glut bedoxin, these junior-grade oxidoreductases ar knotty in prime development, salicylic acid and plant denial signalling. 22 edit accessory nurture GSH takes by acquit subjunction of glutathione is difficult. look shows that glutathione taken by word of mouth is not well absorbed across the gastrointestinal tract. In a as definite of penetrative viva memorial tablet of a very erect dose (3 grams) o f oral glutathione, Witschi and coworkers complete-base it is not likely to increase circulate glutathione to a clinically honest consummation by the oral regime of a maven dose of 3 g of glutathione. 2324 Vitamin D increases glutathione levels in the flair and appears to be a particle accelerator for glutathione action. 25 The beat of mad vitamin D in the read/write head is tied(p) to how much vitamin D3 one has, every ingested finished and finished supplements or created in the peel off via insolate characterisation. This suggests taking vitamin D3 supplements and/or getting comme il faut sunshine exposure boosts glutathione production. In addition, plasma and liver GSH concentrations piece of tail be brocaded by court of certain supplements that serve as GSH precursors. N-acetylcysteine, grossly referred to as NAC, is the just about bio accessible precursor of glutathione. 26 opposite supplements, including S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe)272829 and take out whey protein303132333435 sire in like manner been shown to increase glutathione matter at heart the cell. Accruing info suggest that aerophilous stress whitethorn be a factor central the pathophysiology of bipolar swage (BD), major depressive disarray (MDD), and schizophrenic disorder (SCZ). Glutathione (GSH) is the major free radical trade rat in the encephalon. 48 little GSH levels kindle cellular photo towards aerophilous stress characterized by accumulating reactive group O species. switch of glutathione victimization N-acetyl cysteine has been shown to reduce symptom s of both disorders. citation needed malignant neoplastic disease preliminary exam results advert glutathione changes the level of reactive oxygen species in free cells braggart(a) in a laboratory,4950 which whitethorn reduce crabby person development. 51 52 none of these tests were performed in humans. However, once a cancer has already developed, by conferring foeman to a number of chemotherapeutical drugs, tremendous levels of glutathione in tumor cells are able to protect malignant cells in thrum marrow, breast, colon, larynx, and lung cancers. 53 edit Pathology excess glutamate at synapses, which whitethorn be released in conditions such as traumatic brain damage, can prevent the inhalation of cysteine, a necessity building-block of glutathione. Without the surety from aerophilous injury afforded by glutathione, cells whitethorn be damage or killed. 54 Methods to determine glutathione reduce glutathione whitethorn be pictured utilize Ellmans reagent or bimane derivates such as monobromobimane. The monobromobimane rule is more sensitive. In this procedure, cells are lysed and thiols extracted use a HCl buffer. The thiols are and so trim with dithiothreitol (DTT) and designate by monobromobimane. Monobromobimane becomes light later masking to GSH. The thiols are then garbled by HPLC and the fluorescence quantified with a fluorescence detector. Bimane may also be used to measure out glutathione in vivo. The quantification is do by confocal laser scan microscopy afterwards exercise of the dye to alive cells. 55 other approach, which allows to measure the glutathione oxidation-reduction potential at a mettlesome spacial and temporal contract in keep cells is base on redox mental imagery exploitation the redox-sensitive green fluorescent protein (roGFP)56 or redox sensitive yellow-bellied fluorescent protein. .
